JJ Gabriel, a 15-year-old forward at Manchester United, has emerged as a standout academy talent. In his first season as a regular at under-18 Premier League level, he netted his 21st goal in 23 appearances across all competitions during a win over Manchester City on March 21, 2026. This strike marked his seventh consecutive match with a goal, totaling 10 goals and an assist in that streak, including hat-tricks against Derby County and Liverpool County. Gabriel has also scored two goals in Manchester United's FA Youth Cup campaign so far. Michael Carrick, appointed interim head coach in January 2026 after Ruben Amorim's departure, has involved Gabriel in first-team training. Carrick said, “JJ is a big talent. We obviously think an awful lot of him, but patience is important.” Darren Fletcher, the under-18s lead coach, echoed this: “JJ is a fantastic talent... He’s a young lad with a massive hype... deservedly so, because he’s a really talented kid.” Fletcher noted Gabriel's love for football and strong work ethic. The player can operate in central midfield, attacking midfield, as a centre-forward, or on the left wing. Premier League rules require players to be 15 by August 31 to feature, so Gabriel, who turned 15 on October 6, 2025, is ineligible until the 2026/27 season. Opportunities may arise in pre-season, similar to Arsenal's Max Dowman and Liverpool's Rio Ngumoha. Internationally, Gabriel has six caps at under-15 level and three at under-16 for England, with a first under-17 call-up in March 2026. He is eligible for England, Ireland, Cyprus, and Trinidad and Tobago. Fletcher added, “His time will come in due course.”
