Meta launches prescription-ready Ray-Ban smart glasses

Meta has introduced new frame styles for its Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses that support prescription lenses, starting at $499 for preorder in the US with availability from April 14. The update includes AI features for nutrition logging and message summarization, alongside expanded international availability. Additional enhancements cover Oakley models and Ray-Ban Display glasses.

Meta unveiled two new frame styles under the Ray-Ban Meta Optics line: the rectangular Blayzer Optics in standard and large sizes, and the slimmer Sriber Optics. Available in colors like matte black, transparent matte ice gray, and transparent stone beige, these glasses come with a dark brown charging case. They are optimized for prescription lenses, making them suitable for all-day wear, as Meta aims to position them as a continuous AI assistant. Preorders in the US begin at $499, with shipping starting April 14. The Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 and Oakley Meta lines also feature new lens options, including Prizm Dark Golf for enhanced contrast on the course and Prizm Transitions that adapt to light conditions. Meta AI now analyzes the glasses' camera feed to estimate calories from food views or photos, enabling hands-free nutrition logging. Users can ask, 'Hey Meta, catch me up on my messages,' for summaries of WhatsApp group chats, or query specifics like 'What did Jamie suggest for dinner?' These voice features process on-device with end-to-end encryption and are rolling out to early access users of Ray-Ban Meta, Oakley Meta, and Ray-Ban Display glasses. Ray-Ban Display glasses gain Instagram Reels support, a Spotify shortcut, games like 2048 and GOAT controlled via Meta Neural Band, and widgets for reminders, weather, stocks, and calendar. A new Calendar app integrates with Google Calendar and Outlook. Upcoming features include Neural Handwriting for silent replies on surfaces and dual video recording in spring. The glasses expand to markets like Japan, Korea, Singapore, Chile, Colombia, and Peru, with live translation for 20 languages including Mandarin and Arabic.
