Milei cuts export taxes on wheat and barley from June

President Javier Milei announced a reduction in export taxes on wheat and barley, which will drop from 7.5% to 5.5% starting in June 2026. The measure aims to provide greater predictability to the agricultural sector.

The announcement was made during the ceremony marking the 172nd anniversary of the Buenos Aires Cereals Exchange. Milei detailed that the cut will begin in June and will also apply gradually to other crops from 2027 onward.

Economy Minister Luis Caputo specified that corn, sorghum and sunflower will keep current rates until December 2026, followed by quarterly or semiannual reductions. The estimated fiscal cost for 2026 is around 30 to 60 million dollars.

Representatives from the agricultural sector and the automotive industry welcomed the predictability of the new rules. The Intercooperative Agricultural Confederation estimated that the measure will boost planting for the next campaign.
