Moby announces ambient album Future Quiet for February

Electronic music veteran Moby has revealed details of his upcoming album Future Quiet, set for release on February 20 via BMG. The record features a reimagined version of his 1995 track 'When It's Cold I'd Like to Die' with vocals from Gabriels' Jacob Lusk, building on the song's recent popularity from Stranger Things. Described as a minimalist refuge amid a noisy world, the album includes contributions from several guest vocalists.

Moby, the iconic producer behind hits from the 1990s, is preparing his 23rd studio album, Future Quiet, a mostly ambient and minimalist project influenced by artists like Cocteau Twins, This Mortal Coil, Brian Eno and David Bowie's ambient works, Henryk Górecki, and Arvo Pärt. The album draws from quieter refuges in his past, including repeated listens to 'Song to the Siren' and Joy Division's 'Atmosphere.' It follows his 2023 release Ambient 23 and arrives on February 20, 2026, through BMG.

Leading the record is a reworked version of 'When It's Cold I'd Like to Die,' originally from Moby's 1995 album Everything Is Wrong with vocals by Mimi Goese. The track gained renewed attention after syncing in the first season of Netflix's Stranger Things and its reprisal in season four, becoming Moby's most streamed song and sparking viral moments on TikTok. The new iteration features soaring vocals from Jacob Lusk of Gabriels. Moby shared his admiration: "Like anyone who’s heard Jacob sing, I immediately fell in love with his voice. After hearing him sing on the radio, I spent weeks tracking him down and begging him to work with me. And, lucky me, he agreed. The results speak for themselves, as his vocals on ‘When It’s Cold I’d Like to Die’ are, I say with something approaching objectivity, transcendent."

Future Quiet emphasizes modern piano minimalism and ambient soundscapes, serving as a counterpoint to the world's increasing noise. Moby explained: "‘Future Quiet’ is, not surprisingly, quiet. To be clear; I love bombast. I love excess and volume. But as the world gets louder and crazier I find myself needing the refuge of quiet, both as a listener and as a musician. For me, and hopefully for others, ‘Future Quiet’ is a refuge. The world, self-evidently, is more demanding than it’s ever been. The world screams at us, our screens scream at us, other people scream at us, and to retreat from the screaming we need safety and refuge."

The 14-track album includes guest appearances from serpentwithfeet on 'On Air,' Elise Serenelle on 'LiEstrella del Mar,' and India Carney on 'Precious Mind.' Moby will support the release with his largest tour in over a decade, featuring a headline show at Brighton Beach in summer 2026—his only UK date that year and first Brighton performance in over 25 years—along with stops at Coachella, Rock Werchter in Belgium, Mad Cool Festival in Madrid, and other US and European venues. His most recent UK show was headlining London's O2 in autumn 2024.
