The NBA board of governors voted Thursday to flatten draft lottery odds starting with the 2027 draft. The changes include a 3-2-1 system using 37 balls for 16 teams and will expire after three years. League officials are already eyeing a possible draft credit system to replace the lottery entirely by 2030.
The reforms flatten the odds in a manner only minimally tied to regular-season records. They take effect for the 2027 NBA Draft and expire after three drafts, aligning with the collective bargaining agreement's mutual opt-out after the 2028-29 season.
