NDA clinches landslide win in Bihar assembly polls

The ruling NDA secured a landslide victory in the 2025 Bihar assembly elections, winning 202 seats while the Mahagathbandhan slumped to 35. Under Nitish Kumar's leadership, BJP claimed 89 seats and JD(U) 85. Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed it as a triumph of development and good governance.

In Bihar's 243-seat assembly, the NDA won 202 seats to return to power, marking its biggest victory since 2010. BJP secured 89, JD(U) 85, with LJP (RV) gaining seats on 4.97% vote share, while in the Mahagathbandhan, RJD got about 25 seats with 23% vote share and Congress fewer than double digits. NDA's vote share stood at 46.52%, Mahagathbandhan's at 37.64%.

Nitish Kumar stated, 'People have expressed confidence in our government; I am grateful.' He thanked Modi, Chirag Paswan, Jitan Ram Manjhi, and Upendra Kushwaha. Prime Minister Modi said, 'This is a victory for democracy, development, and social justice. Bihar rejected jungle raj.' He messaged Bengal elections, 'Gangaji Bihar se behati hui, Bangal tak pahunchti hai... Bihar has paved the way for BJP victory in Bengal.'

Mahagathbandhan's defeat stemmed from seat-sharing disputes, naming Tejashwi Yadav as CM face, Rahul Gandhi's weak campaign, and the SIR issue's impact. Internal Congress discontent emerged, with Shashi Tharoor demanding 'serious introspection.' AIMIM won 5 seats in Seemanchal; Owaisi taunted Tejashwi, 'Who couldn't convince his elder brother, how will he unite Bihar's people?'

Yadav family feuds hurt RJD. Dalit voters shifted to NDA, where Mahagathbandhan won only 4 of 38 reserved seats. Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraaj secured no seats.
