New Army chief and senior officers take charge in major military leadership changes

General Dhiraj Seth assumed the role of Chief of Army Staff on July 1. Several other top appointments were made in the Indian Army and Air Force the same day.

General Dhiraj Seth took over as the 31st Chief of Army Staff on Wednesday. He is the third Army Chief from the 2nd Lancers and the first Armoured Corps officer appointed to the post in 30 years.

Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit assumed charge as Vice-Chief of the Air Staff, succeeding Air Marshal Nagesh Kapoor who retired on June 30. Air Marshal Tejinder Singh took over as Chief of Integrated Defence Staff.

Lieutenant General Sandeep Jain became Vice-Chief of the Army Staff. Lieutenant General Mohit Malhotra assumed command of the South Western Command and Lieutenant General Rajesh Pushkar took charge of the Southern Command.

Air Marshal P V Shivanand assumed charge as Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the South Western Air Command.
