Nintendo Music expands to PC, tablets and car screens

Nintendo Music is now accessible on more devices beyond its mobile app. The update allows Nintendo Switch Online subscribers to stream on PC browsers, tablets and car touchscreens.

The service supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Additional features include playlist creation and sharing along with a My Mix option that builds selections from user play history. The library covers soundtracks from more than 130 Nintendo titles. Four hours and 13 minutes of music from Mario Kart World were added this week, with Free Roam tracks expected later. An active Switch Online subscription is required to listen, though non-subscribers may browse the catalog. Some Super Mario Galaxy tracks are also available on Spotify.

Shigeru Miyamoto, creator of Mario, stated that the Super Mario Galaxy Movie helps reach audiences beyond Nintendo's consoles amid a tapped-out console market. In interviews, he emphasized evolving the character through digital media like streaming and films. Nintendo has no plans for a full crossover like Super Smash Bros.

Nintendo Music launched an update on Tuesday that adds support for Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a web browser player and a tablet-optimized app. The changes expand access to the service's video game soundtracks for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. Users can now listen to tracks such as Mario Kart music while driving.

Nintendo has uploaded a special selection of tracks from the soundtracks of Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 to Spotify. The music is available only for a limited time and marks the company's first release on a major streaming service. The deal appears exclusive to Spotify.

Spotify has introduced settings allowing users on free and paid plans to turn off videos, including Canvas looping visuals, music videos, and podcasts. The update, rolling out globally this month, also lets family plan managers adjust video settings for all members. Users can now choose an audio-first experience across mobile, desktop, TV, and web platforms.
