North Korea's Foreign Ministry on June 13 issued a statement via the state-run Korean Central News Agency condemning the joint statement as a clear infringement on its sovereignty and a grave hostile act. It described South Korea as an invariable enemy state obsessed with hostility.
The South Korea-EU statement was adopted on June 10 in Brussels during summit talks between President Lee Jae Myung and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Antonio Costa. It called the North-Russia military cooperation during the Ukraine war illegal and urged both countries to cease such activities while expressing grave concerns over North Korea's nuclear and missile programs.
The North's Ministry accused Lee of removing the mask of peace and said the DPRK would treat the ROK as a hostile state. DPRK stands for the Democratic People's Republic of Korea while ROK stands for the Republic of Korea.
