Hundreds gathered at Pingskyrkan in Örebro on Tuesday for the funeral of 20-year-old BK Forward goalkeeper Hugo Mosshagen, killed in a shooting on March 21. Family and teammates carried the coffin in an emotional ceremony marking the city's grief over the unsolved murder.
The funeral for Hugo Mosshagen took place on Tuesday at Pingskyrkan church, with doors opening at 1:30 pm. Mourners assembled outside to pay respects to the young footballer, shot dead in Markbacken, Väster, shortly after midnight on March 21.
Six teammates from BK Forward, including captain Josef Ibrahim, bore the coffin. Ibrahim, who recently lost his parents, shared his overwhelming grief: “It has been too much. It has become normalized. The feelings for mom and dad are awakened again at the same time as I feel so strongly for Hugo.”
Hugo's father, Joakim Gunnarsson, thanked attendees for the beautiful ceremony but lamented: “One should not have to bury one's child. That's how it is.” The family chose the music, featuring a solo by local artist Pelle Ankarberg and the custom 'Hugos låt', which they believed Hugo would have enjoyed.
For parents Marie and Joakim, burying their eldest of four children realized every parent's worst fear, even as spring symbolized lost futures.
