The team was shut out by Växjö's goaltender Adam Åhman, and Glenn Gustafsson's goal drought now extends to 23 games. Despite the frustration, Gustafsson feels determined in his chances.
Örebro Hockey was in dire need of points ahead of their match against Växjö on Thursday evening at Behrn Arena, with puck drop at 7:00 PM. Despite 28 shots on goal over 60 minutes and several breakaways, the team failed to score and ultimately lost in overtime.
Glenn Gustafsson had two breakaways, while Noah Steen, Melvin Fernström, Wikman, and Patrik Puistola all missed golden opportunities, including Fernström's powerful shot just outside the crossbar and Puistola's half-open net in power play. Växjö's goaltender Adam Åhman excelled and kept a clean sheet.
"But I otherwise felt quite determined in the situations," says Gustafsson, whose goal drought now stands at 23 games. The team has only scored two goals in their last three matches, which is not enough. Frustration is palpable in the team, where that final little piece seems the hardest right now.
Örebro desperately needs points to climb the standings, but a strong performance wasn't sufficient this time.
