Östergötland's only special shelter to be renovated

Östergötland's only special shelter in central Linköping is to be modernized. Property owner Castellum will start the renovation in the autumn on behalf of the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency.

The shelter is located in an underground garage in the Blandaren block. It was built in 1966 and has space for up to 900 people plus staff. The Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency covers the 23 million kronor cost.

Work is scheduled to finish in March next year. The room features extra thick concrete walls and floors. It will have war-assigned staff handling ventilation, electricity, water and security.

Daniel Lindén, project manager at Castellum, says the renovation involves many challenges. Tommy Svärd, business area manager for Östergötland at Castellum, notes that staff will learn as they go.

The old reserve power plant will be replaced. The existing unit may, according to plans, be sent to Ukraine.
