PIC board probes CEO Dlamini over whistleblower claims

The Public Investment Corporation board has started assessing allegations against chief executive Patrick Dlamini following a whistleblower complaint about governance issues linked to a Lanseria Airport dispute.

The complaint, dated 9 June, was sent to PIC chairperson David Masondo and others. It alleges that Dlamini authorised a PricewaterhouseCoopers forensic review without board approval and failed to manage conflicts of interest involving Lanseria Airport Holdings and Harith General Partners.

The board stated that it initiated an assessment of the allegations in line with its policies and gave Dlamini a chance to respond. The PIC has said Dlamini acted within his authority to protect investments for the Government Employees Pension Fund.

Separately, the PIC referred matters from the Lanseria transaction to the Special Investigating Unit. Finance Minister held a special board meeting to address legacy issues at the corporation, which manages more than R3.6-trillion in assets.

South Africa's Constitutional Court ruled today that parliament must establish an impeachment committee to examine allegations against President Cyril Ramaphosa over the Phala Phala farm theft.

Bumula MP Jack Wamboka has been removed as chair of the Public Investments Committee (PIC) on Governance and Education pending a probe into bribery allegations from witnesses. Deputy Speaker Gladys Boss Shollei confirmed the suspension in parliament on Wednesday, April 22, 2026. The move follows complaints from the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC).

South African police officials told Parliament on 10 June 2026 that insufficient evidence prevented misconduct findings in the 2020 Phala Phala farm theft case.

Retired Major General Philippus Christoffel Jacobs testified at the Khampepe Commission this week, denying any interference in delayed Truth and Reconciliation Commission prosecutions. Former Crime Intelligence head Raymond Lalla also testified on 10 April 2026, explaining a secret 2004 recording of a meeting with prosecutor Anton Ackermann. Both attributed their actions to oversight under National Commissioner Jackie Selebi.
