Police launch Sommarfrid operation against youth relationship violence

Between May 18 and 31, police in central Sweden are running operation Sommarfrid with a focus on violence in young people's relationships and strangulation violence.

The operation aims to prevent and detect crimes by visiting schools and youth centers. Police want to build trust with young people who often lack relationship experience and are influenced by social media.

Anders Wallner, operations leader, stresses that strangulation violence is more common among the young and poses a high risk of lethal outcomes. He notes attitudes have changed drastically among youth.

Police conduct door-to-door visits and talks with both victims and perpetrators. Work against domestic violence continues year-round after the operation ends on May 31.

Adults are urged to watch for signs such as bruises or withdrawal from friends. Reports can be made via 114 14 or 112 in emergencies.
