Presidency dismisses Obi call for Tinubu resignation as childish

The Presidency has described Peter Obi’s demand for President Bola Tinubu to resign as childish and hollow. The statement came hours after the All Progressives Congress recorded election victories. Obi, the 2027 presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress, compared the situation to the British Prime Minister’s exit.

Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga issued the statement in Abuja on Monday. He said Obi’s comparison ignores that Nigeria operates a presidential system with a fixed four-year term, unlike the United Kingdom’s parliamentary model.

The Presidency highlighted recent victories by the All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State and senatorial elections in Nasarawa, Enugu, Ondo, and Rivers. It added that these results indicate President Tinubu and his party remain popular ahead of the January 2027 election.

Onanuga defended the administration’s record on security and the economy since 2023. He cited increased oil production, higher foreign reserves, and infrastructure projects while rejecting claims of decline as a selective view of events.
