Prosperity Party secures wide majority in Ethiopian election

The National Election Board of Ethiopia released final results on June 21, 2026, showing the Prosperity Party won 438 of 501 seats in the House of Peoples’ Representatives from the June 1 election.

The board’s deputy chairperson, Tesfaye Neway, detailed the seat distribution. Ethiopian Citizens for Social Justice gained 13 seats, the National Movement of Amara took 6, and Medrek secured 3, with the rest going to other parties and independents.

In a statement the Prosperity Party said it accepted the outcome with humility. “Prosperity Party accepted this great public trust without being boastful about its success,” the statement read. The party pledged to address shortcomings and serve the public through concrete actions.

The statement described the election as a milestone conducted with domestic resources that affirmed Ethiopia’s sovereignty. The party said it will pursue structural reforms, ease living costs, ensure food security, create jobs, and expand the Mesob one-stop service to curb corruption.
