Rover streaming startup democratizes short film access

Rover, a new streaming platform launched in November 2025, provides short films paired with screenplays, technical breakdowns and director commentaries. The service seeks to make the filmmaking process more accessible to aspiring creators worldwide. Founded by Australians Alec Green, Jack Zimmerman and Will Gibb, it currently offers a curated selection of 55 films.

Rover pairs each short film with its screenplay, equipment details and a long-form podcast-style recording from the director. These masterclasses cover topics such as festival strategy, directing non-actors and working with children. Users can search the catalog by year, country, festival or genre. Works include Cannes Palme d’Or winners and Sundance Grand Jury Prize recipients, featuring actors like Emma D’Arcy and Lux Pascal with executive producers including Luca Guadagnino, Patty Jenkins, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck.
