This marks their third consecutive qualification as the final team, achieved under their third captain of the season, James Vince, following injuries to Faf du Plessis and Donovan Ferreira.
Ferreira, who briefly captained before a shoulder injury while fielding, faced just one ball at bat. Paarl Royals' David Miller also sat out batting due to a groin issue. Royals coach Trevor Penney noted, “We’re not sure if he tweaked his groin or if it’s a bit stiff... We didn’t want to risk him because he could have potentially ripped it.”
These injuries hit hard ahead of the T20 World Cup, as both Ferreira and Miller were set for South Africa's starting XI. Tony de Zorzi remains sidelined from SA20 but is expected for the West Indies series starting January 27, per selector Patrick Moroney.
