São Paulo state confirms 14th measles case of 2026

São Paulo state's Health Secretariat confirmed on Tuesday (28) one more measles case, bringing the total to 14 occurrences in the state in 2026. The new case involves a male baby under one year old with no vaccination history, resident in the northern zone of the capital.

The confirmed cases this year involve babies up to two years old and adults between 20 and 50 years. The Health Secretariat maintains the recommendation of the zero dose of the triple viral vaccine for babies from six months to 11 months and 29 days in the municipalities of São Paulo, Guarulhos and São Bernardo do Campo.

The zero dose is an additional measure and does not replace the routine vaccination schedule, which provides for the first dose of the triple viral vaccine at 12 months and the second, preferably with the tetraviral, at 15 months. Vaccination coverage in 2026 is 77.5% in the first dose and 65.5% in the second, below the 95% target.

From August 3 to September 1, people from six months to 59 years old will be able to get vaccinated against measles in the three cities, regardless of previous vaccination history. Adolescents, adults and health workers should also update their vaccination records at health units.
