Building on initial ministerial warnings and Hajj embarkations earlier in April 2026, the Task Force for Handling Illegal Hajj and Umrah—formed on April 14—has uncovered dozens of fraud cases targeting pilgrims. By April 30, it received 115 reports, with 68 under processing, as Wakapolri Commissioner General Dedi Prasetyo stressed prevention and enforcement against repeat offenders.
The Satgas Haji 2026 acted swiftly after its April 14 formation. In under a month, it identified repeat fraud perpetrators. Wakapolri Dedi Prasetyo stated at Bareskrim Polri in Jakarta on April 30, "Satgas Haji this year focuses on prevention as well as firm and professional law enforcement, especially against repeat perpetrators."
Collaborating with the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah through data sharing, the task force has handled 115 public reports to date, prioritizing mediation and restorative justice in 68 cases before escalation.
Efforts extend internationally via Saudi authorities, including aid for Indonesians in legal trouble, such as three detained for alleged Hajj document forgery. Deputy Minister Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak praised the work: "We ensure the state is fully present, both domestically and in the Holy Land, to protect pilgrims from crimes."
Future plans include stronger Polri-ministry synergy and embedding police in the Amirul Hajj structure for comprehensive pilgrim security amid ongoing embarkations.
