Schulze warns of possible BSW support for AfD

Saxony-Anhalt's Minister President Sven Schulze assumes the BSW could help the AfD gain power after the state election.

Schulze made the remarks in an interview with newspapers of the Funke Mediengruppe. He said: «I am convinced that the BSW will make common cause with the AfD if the opportunity arises.» The CDU politician accused both parties of seeking federal importance through the state election.

Schulze criticized AfD lead candidate Ulrich Siegmund as a puppet of Alice Weidel. He added: «I do not want Saxony-Anhalt to be governed by Ms Weidel from Switzerland and by Ms Wagenknecht from Saarland.»

BSW lead candidate Claudia Wittig had previously stated that there are projects that can be initiated with the AfD. However, she ruled out the election of an AfD minister president with BSW votes.

The state election in Saxony-Anhalt is scheduled for September 6. Polls show the AfD at 41 to 42 percent, the CDU at 23 to 26 percent and the BSW at 4 to 5 percent.
