Renowned Colombian popular music singer Yeison Jiménez died in a plane crash in a rural area of Paipa, Boyacá, along with five members of his team. The aircraft crashed minutes after takeoff from Juan José Rondón airport, with no survivors. Authorities have begun investigations to determine the causes of the incident.
The tragedy occurred on January 10, 2026, when the aircraft with registration N325FA took off from Juan José Rondón airport in Paipa, Boyacá, bound for Medellín. On board were six people: singer Yeison Jiménez, 34 years old, Captain Hernando Torres and copilot Óscar Marín, along with Juan Manuel Rodríguez (audiovisual producer), Jefferson Osorio (manager), and Weisman Mora (photographer). The plane flew for three to five minutes before crashing in the Romita vereda, near the runway end, without gaining sufficient altitude.
Colonel Álvaro Bello, technical director of Accident Investigation at the Civil Aeronautics, explained: “From the technical information and data collected so far, it is evident that there was indeed displacement from the moment the aircraft took off. There was a turn in flight, and subsequently, the collision.” The impact caused an immediate fire that prevented any rescue; all died at the scene.
Yeison Jiménez, from Manzanares (Caldas), had risen in popular music through a story of overcoming poverty. He had recently performed in Palermo (Huila) and was scheduled to appear in Medellín. In a podcast, he had recounted recurring dreams of a plane crash.
The Civil Aeronautics confirmed the identities and expressed condolences to the families. Investigation lines include technical, operational, and human factors, with emphasis on verifying social media information. Preliminary reports are expected in less than 30 days.
Reactions flooded social media: the president wrote about the death of six people in the fire near Paipa. Jhonny Rivera lamented: “Little brother, I feel such a huge void in my chest.” Carlos Vives and Jessi Uribe also sent messages of support to the family.
