Sinoma opens Tafo concrete plant in Ethiopia

Sinoma International Engineering Corporation Limited has inaugurated its first ready-mix concrete plant in Tafo, Ethiopia, as part of a plan to establish ten production sites nationwide. The facility aims to bolster the country's construction sector with high-quality materials. Officials from China and Ethiopia hailed the opening as a key step in bilateral economic cooperation.

On October 22, 2025, Sinoma International Engineering Corporation Limited officially opened its Tafo ready-mix concrete plant, marking the beginning of its expanded operations in Ethiopia. This facility represents the first of ten planned production sites designed to meet the growing demand for building materials in the nation's booming construction and infrastructure sectors.

The Tafo plant has a projected annual production capacity of 5 million cubic meters of concrete. Meng Jiang Tao, General Manager of Sinoma’s Ethiopia branch, emphasized the company's commitment to Ethiopia's development. "The plant integrates Chinese expertise with local resources to support the country’s infrastructure growth," he said. He described the facility as a “solid foundation for future major projects,” providing stable, high-quality, and efficient concrete products. Meng expressed thanks to major clients, including China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC), Dangote Cement, and National Cement, for their support.

Sinoma's strategy includes sites in key cities such as Addis Ababa, Hawassa, Dire Dawa, and Bahir Dar, ensuring nationwide coverage. Beyond ready-mix concrete, the company plans to produce gravel, sand, water-reducing chemicals, and other related products to develop a complete industrial chain.

The event drew praise from representatives of both nations. Ma Teng, Secretary-General of the China Chamber of Commerce, noted that the opening reinforces Chinese enterprises’ commitment to the Belt and Road Initiative. He highlighted the role of Chinese companies in Ethiopia’s economic expansion through infrastructure projects and pledged ongoing engagement for mutual benefit. Liu Xiaoguang, Minister Advisor at the Chinese Embassy in Ethiopia, called the project a start to a “remarkable journey” of joint collaboration, underscoring its political and economic value as a platform for future large-scale initiatives.

This inauguration signals a milestone in China-Ethiopia economic ties, promising to accelerate infrastructure development with reliable building supplies.
