The stoner and doom metal band Sleep has released its first new music in eight years along with plans for a North American tour this fall.
Sleep released the single “Have Spacesuit Will Travel” through Third Man Records. The track is also included as a flexi disc in a bundle with Sleep Comic Book, the first issue of a new series written by frontman Al Cisneros.
The band’s lineup has changed. Guitarist and co-founder Matt Pike is no longer a member. Bubba Dupree of Void has joined on guitar, and Dale Crover of Melvins is now on drums. Jason Roeder has returned to Neurosis.
A press release stated that “the music and art are alive” and that “it is time to move forward and make songs and albums.” Al Cisneros wishes Matt Pike the best.
The fall tour begins September 8 in San Diego and ends November 17 in Washington, D.C., with a stop at the Levitation festival in Austin on September 13.
