Starlink surpasses 150,000 clients in Chile

Starlink reached 156,623 subscribers in Chile by the end of the first quarter of 2026, according to Subtel data. This marks an 81.4% increase over twelve months.

Subtel figures show Starlink grew from 86,343 clients in March 2025 to 156,623 by the end of March 2026. The company accounts for 3.22% of the country's 4,859,679 fixed internet connections.

Fiber optic leads the market with 4.1 million connections, or 85.3% of the total. Starlink holds 84.2% of the other technologies category, which totals 195,299 subscribers.

Its main competitor, Hughes Net, reported 4,409 connections, down 26.1% from the previous year. Amazon's Leo service is expected to enter the market in mid-2026 via Directv.

Blue Origin has filed with the US Federal Communications Commission to deploy up to 51,600 satellites for Project Sunrise, an orbital data center constellation aimed at AI computing. Following its Mobile World Congress keynote, Starlink has teased enhanced V2 satellites enabling direct 5G-speed connections from phones to space, building on promises of 150 Mbps and vastly improved data capacity.

Millicom presented its first-quarter 2026 results and reported cutting 35% of its Chile staff after taking control of Telefónica operations in February. The move generated US$21 million in severance and voluntary retirement costs.
