The Pittsburgh Steelers signed outside linebacker Nick Herbig to a four-year, $100 million contract extension on Tuesday. The deal keeps the 2023 fourth-round pick with the team through the foreseeable future. Herbig had expressed a strong desire to remain in Pittsburgh for his entire career.
Herbig participated in individual drills during mandatory minicamp while contract talks continued but avoided team sessions. He later told reporters he wanted security so he could focus on camp without distractions. Teammates reacted positively to the news. T.J. Watt called the extension well deserved and highlighted Herbig’s work ethic. Alex Highsmith posted “Deserved” on Instagram, and Patrick Queen shared a similar message. Herbig became emotional during his Wednesday press conference when discussing his brother Nate, a former Steelers offensive lineman who advocated for his draft selection. He also voiced support for fellow 2023 draft pick Keeanu Benton to receive his own extension. Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy said the team was thrilled to reward a deserving player. Insider Gerry Dulac reported that Pittsburgh has no plans to trade other outside linebackers following the deal.
