Sverigedemokraterna puts up election posters in Marbella

Sverigedemokraterna has placed election posters in Marbella, Spain, ahead of the Swedish parliamentary election. The initiative comes from the party's Stockholm district and targets Swedes in the area.

A Swedish woman living in Marbella, Isabella, has seen several posters from Sverigedemokraterna but none from other parties. The text on the posters reads ”Utländsk gängkriminell? Efter valet skickas du hem”.

Gabriel Kroon, group leader for Sverigedemokraterna in Stockholm, confirms that the party is behind the campaign. The goal is to reach Stockholmers who vacation or live in the area.

Kroon notes that the party would have liked to put up advertising in Pattaya as well but that it is not the season for Thailand right now. The posters are linked to Swedish criminal networks such as ”Los Suecos” on the Spanish coast.

Parties are stepping up efforts to reach the roughly 220,000 overseas Swedes registered to vote ahead of the autumn election. Low turnout makes the group strategically important in close races.

The Sweden Democrats are investing in retro-style election posters promising to make Sweden Sweden again. The aim is to evoke feelings of nostalgia.

Sweden's Tidö parties now hold only 174 seats in parliament after former SD MPs Elsa Widding and Katja Nyberg announced they will vote with the opposition on certain issues. Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson's government is fully dependent on the two independents in key votes. Sverigedemokraterna accuses the Greens of buying the votes, which MP and the independents deny.
