The International Olympic Committee lifted its suspension of the Russian Olympic Committee on Tuesday. Svenska Ishockeyförbundet said its position remains unchanged.
The International Olympic Committee announced Tuesday that it had lifted the suspension of the Russian Olympic Committee. The move removes a barrier that had prevented Russia from Olympic participation.
Svenska Ishockeyförbundet chair Anders Larsson stated the federation’s view has not changed. “Svensk ishockeys uppfattning om Rysslands och Belarus deltagande är oförändrad,” he wrote in a message to Hockeysverige.
Larsson added that Russia and Belarus should not be allowed to take part in international ice hockey under current conditions. The federation noted the IOC decision mainly affects future events, with the next Winter Olympics scheduled for 2030.
Russia has remained barred from IIHF competitions since its 2022 invasion of Ukraine.
