Taylor Swift's legal team argued in a Los Angeles court Wednesday against an emergency ban on merchandise sales tied to her album The Life of a Showgirl. The hearing addressed claims of trademark infringement from performer Maren Wade. A judge has yet to issue a ruling.
Swift's attorney J. Douglas Baldridge told the court that Wade's request would violate free speech protections for an expressive work. He argued that consumers would not confuse the album with Wade's live shows, podcast or book under the trademark Confessions of a Showgirl. Baldridge noted Wade had used related hashtags to link herself to Swift for eight months without objection.
