'Toy Story 5' tops weekend box office, dethroning 'Colony'

The Hollywood animation 'Toy Story 5' debuted at the top of the South Korean weekend box-office chart, ending the four-week winning streak of the Korean zombie thriller 'Colony'.

'Toy Story 5' added 713,071 admissions over the weekend, bringing its accumulated total to 872,553 as of Sunday, according to data released by the Korean Film Council.

'Colony,' the latest in director Yeon Sang-ho's zombie thriller lineup, ranked second with 188,674 admissions over the weekend and 5,527,525 total admissions.

'Wild Sing,' another Korean film starring Gang Dong-won, added 133,556 admissions and crossed the one-million milestone to land at No. 3. The Korean-Japanese supernatural horror film 'The Shrine' debuted at No. 5.

South Korea's exports jumped 43.7 percent from a year earlier in the first 10 days of May. Data from the Korea Customs Service showed outbound shipments reached 18.4 billion dollars.

South Korean stocks closed slightly lower Friday amid mixed US signals on its war with Iran and eased chip sector concerns. The benchmark KOSPI fell 0.4 percent to 5,438.87, while the won weakened against the dollar.
