A fire near the tracks halted train traffic between Linköping and Mjölby on Thursday afternoon. One traveler with a child found unexpected support from a fellow passenger amid the chaos.
Train traffic on the southern main line was halted at 17:10 on Thursday after fires broke out in several places along a one-kilometer stretch near Vikingstad. Rescue services had the blaze largely under control by 17:30 and left the site by 20:00.
Trafikverket's initial forecast indicated traffic could resume no earlier than 05:00 on Friday. Sandra Kinnaman was stranded with her ten-month-old son Oliver at Mjölby station and noticed tensions rising among passengers after the long wait.
Sandra and Signe Carlsson Roos ended up seated next to each other on a replacement bus to Linköping. They decided to book a shared hotel room and checked in at 23:00. Trains began running again at 22:30.
