Union requests support for auditors on Venezuela border

The Sindifisco Nacional sent a letter to the Federal Revenue secretary requesting support and security for tax auditors working on the Venezuela border, amid concerns over a US military invasion of the neighboring country. The request emphasizes the need to ensure customs control in Pacaraima, Roraima. It comes after US attacks that captured President Nicolás Maduro.

The Sindifisco Nacional, the union representing Federal Revenue tax auditors, sent a letter on Monday (5) to Secretary Robinson Barreirinhas requesting the agency's maximum effort in providing support and assistance, including security, to professionals on the Venezuela border.

The document, signed by the union's president, Dão Real Pereira dos Santos, refers to the auditors' work at the Pacaraima Customs Border Post in Roraima and the importance of ensuring the full exercise of their customs control duties.

"As representatives of the Federal Revenue tax auditors of Brazil, public state authorities tasked with presiding over and coordinating customs control activities at land borders, the Sindifisco Nacional, in defense of the Democratic Rule of Law, expresses deep concern about the effects that this North American military invasion of that country may have on Brazil's sovereignty, especially regarding border control," the letter states.

The context involves US attacks on Venezuela on Saturday (3), including bombings of the capital Caracas and the capture of dictator Nicolás Maduro and his wife. Maduro will face charges for crimes such as narcoterrorism, conspiracy to import cocaine, and possession of machine guns and destructive devices.

The union's request aims to safeguard Brazilian sovereignty and the operation of border activities amid this tense international situation.
