US economic affairs secretary to visit Philippines this week

US Secretary of State for Economic Affairs Jacob Helberg will travel to the Philippines this week to discuss economic development and the Pax Silica partnership.

The US Department of State announced the visit yesterday. Helberg is scheduled to be in the country from today until Thursday.

The trip will center on the Pax Silica partnership, a US-led effort to strengthen supply chains for artificial intelligence, advanced computing, semiconductors and critical minerals. The Philippines joined the group last month as its 13th member, alongside Australia, Finland, India, Israel, Japan, Qatar, Republic of Korea, Singapore, Sweden, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and the US.

During his stay, Helberg plans to meet government officials, private sector leaders and representatives from other ASEAN countries. He will also visit the planned Economic Security Zone, a proposed 4,000-acre industrial site intended to support the Luzon Economic Corridor.
