Wildfire in Yangyang fully extinguished after 16 hours

A wildfire in Yangyang County, Gangwon Province, was fully extinguished at 10:20 a.m. on November 23, 16 hours after it started. The blaze, which began on a hill opposite a vacation lodge in Seolim, scorched 22.5 hectares of forest but caused no casualties. Twenty-six helicopters were deployed after sunrise to combat the fire.

On the morning of November 23, a wildfire that broke out at 6:16 p.m. the previous day on a hill opposite a vacation lodge in Seolim-myeon, Yangyang County, was completely extinguished. Located about 155 kilometers northeast of Seoul, the fire was put out after 16 hours, with the main flames doused by 10:20 a.m., affecting 22.5 hectares of forest in total.

According to firefighting and forestry authorities, 26 helicopters were dispatched to the site successively immediately after sunrise. On the ground, more than 100 pieces of equipment and 326 personnel were mobilized to battle the blaze. Earlier reports indicated that over 70 percent of the fire had been extinguished by 7 a.m., with 20 hectares affected at that time, but the final figure was confirmed as 22.5 hectares.

The number of helicopters was initially reported as 25 but updated to 26 in the latest account. No casualties were reported. This wildfire was a single incident in Yangyang's forested area, contained through swift response to prevent further spread.
