Wisconsin man sentenced to 18 years for mother's death in crash

Casey Yiannackopoulos, 48, was sentenced to 18 years in prison after pleading guilty to homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle in the death of his 77-year-old mother in Muskego, Wisconsin.

The crash occurred around 7:15 p.m. on Nov. 2 on the S7100 block of Hillendale Drive. Yiannackopoulos drove at least 50 mph in a 30 mph zone before leaving the road. His mother was found unconscious in the passenger seat after first responders broke the windows to reach her. She was pronounced dead at the hospital about an hour later.

Yiannackopoulos left the scene and was later found hiding in a crawl space at his mother's nearby home. Witnesses reported he appeared intoxicated. He told officers it was an accident and that he would have been more cooperative if he had known his mother was dead.

During sentencing, Yiannackopoulos apologized to his family. Judge Ralph Ramirez rejected the apology, stating he would not feel sorry for the man who caused his own mother's death. Yiannackopoulos also received eight years of probation.
