KDE developers are restoring the classic Oxygen and Air themes for the Plasma 6.7 release scheduled for June 16, 2026. The effort, led by Filip Fila and original Oxygen designer Nuno Pinheiro, aims to revive the themes' glassy aesthetics from the KDE 4 era in time for KDE's 30th anniversary. Both themes have seen significant updates to panels, widgets, and visual effects.

KDE's new Plasma Login Manager, set to debut in Plasma 6.6 next month, will not support FreeBSD or other BSD systems due to its reliance on systemd. The change, accepted via a merge request, prioritizes compatibility with Linux distributions using systemd. While the Plasma desktop remains available on FreeBSD, users there will continue relying on the existing SDDM login manager.

The open-source music player Amarok has released version 3.3.2, bringing usability improvements and fixes to its interface and audio features. This update, part of the 3.3 “Far Above the Clouds” series, requires KDE Frameworks 6.5 and addresses several playback and playlist issues. It follows the major 3.3 update from July 2025, which shifted to modern Qt 6 and GStreamer backend.
