Emergency Medical Services spokesperson Ian Winterboer confirmed the patient suffered cardiac arrest. Bystanders had started CPR, but paramedics declared the man deceased at the scene despite their efforts.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) spokesperson Ian Winterboer confirmed the patient had gone into cardiac arrest. “Midlands EMS received multiple calls of a patient that had collapsed at the Nelson Mandela capture site, on arrival paramedics noted that bystanders had already begun a CPR process. Paramedics took over the CPR and despite all efforts, the patient was declared deceased on the scene,” Winterboer said.
EMS responded after receiving several calls about the incident.
