Alex Eala defeats Maya Joint to reach Wimbledon third round

Alex Eala advanced to the third round of Wimbledon for the first time after defeating Maya Joint 3-6, 6-2, 6-0 on July 2.

The Philippines' Alexandra Eala secured a three-set victory over Australia's Maya Joint in the round of 64 at the 2026 Wimbledon Championships on Court 3 of the All England Club.

Eala overcame an early deficit to win the final nine games of the match, which lasted one hour and 57 minutes. The result avenged her three-set loss to Joint in the 2025 Eastbourne Open final.

"It hit me quite hard. I cried a lot, and I think I wasn’t able to watch those highlights for a couple of months," Eala said. She will next face defending champion Iga Swiatek.

Ranked 32nd and seeded 29th, Eala improved on her 2025 US Open performance where she became the first Filipino to win a Grand Slam main draw match in the Open era.
