The new Arada Park was inaugurated for service by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (Dr.) today. Addis Ababa city administration's agency head Abebaw said the project restores residents' human dignity.
Addis Ababa, May 1, 2018 (Fana) - Arada Park has transformed a slum area and restored residents' human dignity, said agency head Abebaw.
Previously, the Piassa area featured dire conditions, with residents crammed into shanties, unsafe houses, and unsanitary dwellings, struggling for survival. The riverbank debris posed health risks and marred the city's image.
The park spans over 20,000 square meters of human-centric housing, filled with natural beauty and modern amenities. It includes over 131 benches, food vending kiosks, an art gallery, a sports arena, 5km running track, 5km cycling path, 6km walking trail. Five playgrounds for children are provided, four free of charge.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (Dr.) stated, "Arada Park shows our vision for transforming Addis Ababa in action." Abebaw thanked local residents and officials for their contributions.
