Arcángel releases eighth studio album La 8va Maravilla

Puerto Rican artist Arcángel has marked his 20-year music career with the release of his eighth studio album, La 8va Maravilla, on Rimas Entertainment. The 20-track project features collaborations with artists including Ricky Martin and Daddy Yankee, showcasing a more mature and experimental sound. This album represents a personal milestone, created during his first sober period following open-heart surgery.

Arcángel's latest release, La 8va Maravilla, arrives as a reflection of his artistic evolution after two decades in the industry. The album blends genres such as merengue in “Hoy Se Guaya,” afro house in “Chula,” banda in “Cuánto Cuesta,” Jersey club in “Ese Labial,” and pop in “Lluvia,” alongside his signature R&B and reggaetón influences. Lyrically, it shifts toward romantic, tasteful, and faith-based themes, evident in tracks like “Di Amén,” moving away from the provocative style that defined his earlier work.

Collaborators on the project include Ricky Martin, Daddy Yankee, Grupo Firme, Kapo, Sech, Beéle, and Arcángel's son, Austin San. In a Billboard Español cover story, Arcángel discussed the album's significance, noting it as his first created entirely sober after undergoing open-heart surgery. “It made me realize that I don’t need [to consume] anything to create. I can create at any time, even in my worst moments. If for 20 years I created music in a not-so-healthy way, making music during very dark times, imagine what I can do now that I’m sober and feeling better personally,” he said.

This release highlights Arcángel's growth, emphasizing personal health and creative freedom. Billboard Latin and Español editors have recommended it as part of their best new Latin music selections for the week.
