A24's Backrooms is on track to surpass Marty Supreme as the studio's highest-grossing film worldwide this weekend. Projections show it reaching more than $191 million globally.
The film, which opened less than two weeks ago, is expected to overtake the $191.2 million global total of Marty Supreme by Monday at the latest. Domestic earnings are projected to hit $134.8 million by Sunday, with foreign markets adding at least $50.3 million as of Saturday. Backrooms posted an estimated second-weekend North American gross of $25.7 million, reflecting a 68 percent drop from its debut. The performance marks a domestic record for A24, which it achieved in just six days. Produced on a budget under $10 million with partners including Chernin Entertainment and Blumhouse, the movie stars Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve. It is co-financed by 21 Laps and Phobos.
