Braves acquire Mauricio Dubón from Astros for Nick Allen

The Atlanta Braves have traded for infielder Mauricio Dubón from the Houston Astros, sending Nick Allen in return. The deal, announced late Wednesday, bolsters Atlanta's infield options heading into 2026. Dubón, a two-time Gold Glove winner, is expected to serve as the Braves' primary shortstop next season.

In a move to shore up their infield depth, the Atlanta Braves acquired versatile infielder Mauricio Dubón from the Houston Astros on Wednesday in exchange for Nick Allen. The 31-year-old Dubón batted .241/.289/.355 with seven home runs in 133 games during the 2025 season for Houston. Over parts of seven MLB seasons, he has posted an OPS+ of 85.

Defensively, Dubón stands out as a two-time Gold Glove winner in the utility role and has experience at seven different positions. With the Braves, he is projected to take over as the primary shortstop in 2026 and will be eligible for free agency after that season.

In return, the Astros receive 27-year-old Nick Allen, who has a 55 OPS+ across 1,176 career plate appearances in four big-league seasons. Allen has primarily played shortstop but can handle other infield spots. Entering 2026 with two to three years of MLB service time, he is slated for a bench role in Houston.

This trade addresses Atlanta's need for reliable infield play while providing Houston with a young, flexible option off the bench. Both players bring positional versatility to their new teams as the offseason progresses.
