BRI deploys volunteers for Sumatra disaster recovery support

PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI), as part of Danantara, deploys volunteers and aid for emergency response and post-disaster recovery in Sumatra. On December 19, a volunteer release event in Medan involved 1,066 volunteers and 109 aid trucks, with Aceh as an initial priority.

PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, or BRI, continues to demonstrate its commitment to supporting emergency response and post-disaster recovery efforts in Sumatra through the Danantara initiative. On Friday, December 19, 2025, in Kualanamu, Medan, the Head of the State-Owned Enterprises Management Agency (BP BUMN) and Danantara COO Dony Oskaria, along with BRI President Director Hery Gunardi, released BRI Disaster Response Volunteers during the Joint BUMN Peduli Volunteer Roll Call.

The event deploys 1,066 volunteers and 109 aid trucks carrying humanitarian assistance for emergency handling and recovery in affected areas, with Aceh as one of the initial distribution priorities. The occasion coincides with National Defense Day, interpreted as the state's presence in a humanitarian context.

In his remarks, Dony Oskaria emphasized, “BUMN belongs to the Indonesian people. Therefore, whenever the people need it, our presence is not an option, but an obligation. From the start of the disaster, we have emphasized that the presence of BUMN is not merely a complement, but a form of responsibility as a state-owned company.”

Hery Gunardi explained that since the onset of the disaster, BRI, through its nearest operational units, has quickly mapped field needs to ensure aid matches community conditions. BRI focuses not only on emergency response but also supports medium- and long-term recovery via the BRI Peduli program.

The aid includes clothing, baby supplies such as milk and diapers, clean water, nine staple goods, medicines, communal tents, blankets, and prayer equipment. Distribution is prioritized based on needs assessment and coordination with local governments.
