British actress charged over Australia meth smuggling attempt

British actress Emaa Hussen appeared in a Sydney court on Thursday facing charges of attempting to smuggle 700 pounds of methamphetamine into Australia from Ghana.

Hussen, 34, who appeared in the 2013 film "Redemption" alongside Jason Statham, is accused of helping conceal the drugs, valued at $208 million, inside charcoal bags loaded into shipping containers.

Australian police began investigating the case in April after discovering a white crystallized substance in two containers arriving at Port Botany from Ghana. Officers said Hussen assisted in unloading the goods before her arrest at a nearby home, where 32 bags were recovered.

The seizure is estimated to have stopped 3.2 million potential drug deals, according to Acting Superintendent Trevor Robinson of the Australian Federal Police. Hussen has been denied bail and is scheduled to return to court in August. A South African couple was also arrested in connection with the case.
