Around 20 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' fans picketed Hulu's Santa Monica office on April 14, exactly one month after Disney canceled the 'Buffy: New Sunnydale' reboot and coinciding with Sarah Michelle Gellar's birthday, dubbed International Buffy Day by supporters.
Protesters, clad in Buffy merchandise and wielding signs calling for the show's return, gathered outside Hulu's Santa Monica office to demand new episodes of the iconic 1990s series. The demonstration marked one month since the cancellation of the Hulu-bound reboot—announced in February 2025 and helmed by director Chloé Zhao—which would have starred Ryan Kiera Armstrong as the new slayer, with Gellar reprising Buffy in a recurring role. As previously reported, Gellar attributed the project's demise partly to an executive unfamiliar with the original series and lamented the timing just before her SXSW appearance. Sources say Gellar and Zhao were surprised by the decision. The protest highlighted enduring fan passion for the seven-season show, originally based on the 1992 film.
