Former world No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki has offered support for Aryna Sabalenka following a string of Grand Slam disappointments. Wozniacki emphasized that the current world No. 1 is human and faces tough competition. Sabalenka's latest exit came against Naomi Osaka.
Wozniacki addressed expectations placed on Sabalenka in an interview with Tennis365. She said players should not assume the Belarusian will reach finals and win every week.
Sabalenka lost to Osaka in a recent Grand Slam, marking her first failure to reach the quarterfinals since the 2022 French Open. She managed only two break points in the match and saw a 21-match tiebreaker winning streak at majors end in the second-set tiebreaker.
Sabalenka had also exited in the quarterfinals at the French Open earlier this year. At the Australian Open final, she lost after leading 3-0 in the deciding set against Elena Rybakina. She reached eight major finals since 2023 and holds a strong overall record of 211 wins and 41 losses in that period.
Her next event is the Canadian Open. Sabalenka remains the two-time defending US Open champion.
