Chelsea announced on Thursday lunchtime that Moises Caicedo has agreed to a new seven-year deal on improved terms. The 24-year-old, who arrived from Brighton on an eight-year contract, has now committed his future to the club until 2033 after 140 appearances. He played a key role in Chelsea's Conference League and Club World Cup triumphs last year, the club said. > “I am so happy to have extended my contract at Chelsea,” Caicedo told the club’s official website. “I believe in this team, this club and I know we’re going in the right direction. We’ve only just begun together. > “There is still a lot more to achieve, and I’m very hungry to keep improving every day. I want to win more trophies with Chelsea and give everything for this club and for the fans. > “We have enjoyed some great times together already and my dream is to become a Chelsea legend, and I will work as hard as possible to make that happen.” The extension comes amid scrutiny of Chelsea's transfer strategy of signing young potential over proven stars. Co-owner Behdad Eghbali addressed this at CAA’s World Congress of Sports conference in Los Angeles, stating the club aims to retain its core players like Caicedo, Cole Palmer, Enzo Fernandez, Levi Colwill and others while adding experience. > “The objective is to keep your best players, and we’ve done that,” Eghbali said. Chelsea captain Reece James signed a new six-year deal last month, signaling stability at the club.
