Chilean acrobat dies in motorcycle stunt at Italian circus

A tragic accident at an Italian circus claimed the life of 26-year-old Chilean acrobat Christian Quezada Vásquez during a motorcycle stunt known as the 'Globe of Death'. The incident took place in Sant'Anastasia, in the province of Naples, leaving one colleague in critical condition. Italian authorities are investigating the causes of the event.

The accident happened during a performance at a circus in Sant'Anastasia, in the province of Naples, Italy. Christian Quezada Vásquez, 26 years old, was participating in the 'Globe of Death' act, where three acrobats perform maneuvers on motorcycles inside a steel sphere. The show was conducted almost in the dark, illuminated only by LED lights on the riders' suits.

According to initial reports, Quezada lost control of his motorcycle and fell abruptly toward the center of the structure. His colleagues—a 43-year-old Mexican and a 26-year-old Colombian—tried to slow down to avoid him, but the inertia and limited space led to a violent collision that proved fatal for the Chilean.

The Mexican acrobat was rushed in critical condition to Ospedale del Mare, while the Colombian remains conscious and out of vital risk. Italian authorities have an ongoing investigation to clarify the exact causes of the accident. The identification of those involved was confirmed hours later, as their families reside outside Italy.

This incident underscores the inherent risks of high-stakes circus performances, where precision and visibility conditions are crucial.
