Christian Garin advances in Montecarlo qualy by beating De Jong

Chilean tennis player Christian Garin beat Dutchman Jesper de Jong 7-5, 1-6, 6-1 in the first round of the Montecarlo Masters 1000 qualifying. The match lasted one hour and 52 minutes. Garin will next face Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili in the second round.

Christian Garin, ranked No. 100, secured a key win in his debut at the Montecarlo Masters 1000 qualifying. He defeated Jesper de Jong (No. 99) in a competitive three-set match: 7-5, 1-6, 6-1.

The first set was tight, with both players solid on serve and aggressive. Garin broke in the 11th game and held to close it out.

De Jong took control in the second set, breaking in the fourth and sixth games for a 6-1 win. Garin then dominated the third, breaking in the second and fourth games to win 6-1 and advance.

This victory puts the Ariqueño one step closer to the main draw, where fellow Chilean Alejandro Tabilo (No. 39) is already qualified and will face Marton Fucsovics (No. 51). Basilashvili (No. 129), Garin's next opponent, beat Jan-Lennard Struff (No. 75) 6-3, 6-3. The match schedule is not yet set.
