The New York Yankees placed outfielder Cody Bellinger on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain on Sunday. The move came after Bellinger suffered the injury during Saturday's 3-1 win over the Philadelphia Phillies. Spencer Jones was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to take his roster spot.
Bellinger felt a grab in his left hamstring while running out an eighth-inning double. He stayed in the game to run the bases but was replaced in left field for the bottom of the inning. The outfielder performed light agility drills on Sunday before heading to New York for an MRI exam on Monday.
Bellinger said the injury felt tight but not serious. "I've never had a hamstring injury before," he said. "I really don't think it's anything too serious. I feel like it's on the smaller side."
Manager Aaron Boone noted that Jones will receive a large share of at-bats in left field. The Yankees are already without Aaron Judge, who is recovering from a fractured right rib, and Giancarlo Stanton, who is progressing slowly from calf strains. Bellinger entered Sunday with 19 defensive runs saved, second in the majors.
